Ever wondered what’s the big deal about gratitude? Let’s break it down.
Gratitude is a powerful force that has the ability to transform our lives. It allows us to shift our focus from what is lacking to what is abundant; from what is wrong to what is right. Gratitude enables us to find joy in the present moment and appreciate the blessings we have in our lives, no matter how big or small.
At my house it goes something like this: A view of the leafless maple tree in our backyard, and my family gathered around the dining table. It’s our moment to share the small joys that brighten our day. From the silly remarks from my husband to contagious laughter of my children, each moment becomes a piece of gratitude we treasure. Personally, I kickstart my mornings with gratitude, focusing on all the things I am truly grateful for, being surrounded by love and support, our thriving health to the kids’ giggles or silly dance moves—they top my list every single day.
But hold on—gratitude isn’t just about the giggles. It’s a state of mind. Whether it’s on your phone or scribbled in a notebook, thinking about the good stuff and really feeling it—your week’s highlights, close friends, work victories, or even your well-being—counts.
When I first started this practice I’d doubted the whole “practice” part. It felt like I was forcing myself into a long journaling session, Iike seriously, I just don’t get it. But this was the same experience I had with yoga—I used to think it was boring and way too slow. Now, though? Can’t imagine my life without either of them.
Here’s the beauty:
Gratitude isn’t just a routine; it’s a way to get real with yourself. It is a way of being. When you focus on what you’re grateful for, you start seeing what—and who—truly matters. It’s like hitting pause on the noise—the doubts, worries, and distractions—bringing in some confidence and calm.
So, here’s the deal. Let’s rock a gratitude vibe not just for a day or two but try it out for a month. Five minutes a day—totally doable, right? Because truth be told, beyond the glimmers, my childrens laughter and awesome dance moves, my family and this community are the true highlights of my every day.
